My life in the 2-Week Hiatus

I wouldn't say that I'm not one of those people who gets hooked by lovely, cute, colorful things...because I AM.  COSPLAY is manifesting itself in different malls these days and I for one loved the promotion of this performing art.  Lets just hope event coordinators don't get greedy and decide to make money out of this medium. 

I've been away from the cosplay scene these weeks...solely because I'm busy with A LOT of OTHER THINGS!  I wish, i wish I can be with the cosplayers all day long...sadly, it's gonna stay as a dream...for now... hehe.

I'm posting late pictures from the cosplay gathering, KOSUPUREDETO (Cosplay Date) last February 5, 2011.  I can not post all 75+ cosplayers because...well...there are just TOO MANY to post here! Check the FB accounts for more pics.  I believe Bian from TINTA|productions posted a LOT of individual pictures.

Very cute indeed!  The best part about KosupureDeto is that there are a LOT of variety in the anime characters that the cosplayers chose to cosplay.  It's so nice to see characters from different anime series without a double.

These days I'm busy with the ICI Team.  What is ICI??? ICI is Ice Cream Indie <--- a local team of manga artists who publish their own manga within the city (for now).  I've been recently plucked out...HAHAHAH thanks to Oyabun and Shids...  Now the team of two immediately multiplied to a team of six because the BLOTS Inc. (TINTA|production's Ink Art team) joined the ICI banner.

Manga (Japanese Comics) has always been a part of my life since HS.  Jay and I have been creating our stories and imagining visions of them since we first saw Ghostfighters (YuYu Hakusho) back in 1997.  When we were separated in 2001, we did not stop talking about these...we email each other and plan...plan...plan...  Until we met again in Manila 2004 where we did our first Manga...that did not get published because of some technical error.  Anyway!  In all those years not making mangas, I did not stop writing.  

One of my written works is ROOK of the RATS.  It's basically staged in a fictional medieval age that reflects the very society of Pinas.  Originally, ROOK is written in narrative form...which makes it difficult to transform given that graphic-wise, it is very demanding.

Jay Wong took charge of sketch.  Joe Ming and Fu Odashima took charge of Ink and Layout.  I ended up with scriptwriting and toning...which I need more time to practice.  The story is about a young thief, Rook...who grew up with a Thieving Guild ran by an Old Thief Queen.  Living in the old trading city of Lunetta, this guild has ruled over the underground kingdom that rebels against the tyrannical kingdom of the Sunivan Clan.  As you read through the manga, you will not only notice similarities to our own country but also fun and exciting adventures of a kid's life and of course, ROMANCE.    

It is a blessing that I came to meet Shids and Oyabun.  We talked about it...in truth...I can't even remember when it started?  It just...POPPED OUTTA NOWHERE! And then we'll be launching the Issue 2.5 this March 4! 0,0 WooooaaahhH!  No kidding!  Time sure flies...

Aside from Shida's "IN HER WORLD" and "RISING UNDERGROUND," we will also be releasing Kou's "WISHFUL THINKING" and BLOTS Inc's "ROOK of the RATS."

After freaking out for 2 weeks, we met last night to check on the artworks.  I really need practice.  Arghhh!  Thank you so much, Shids and Kou for helping me out!  My eternal thanks!!!

Hoping you guys will come to love our stories and art.  Remember, it's OUR VERY OWN LOCAL MANGA!  Let's support this and see it fly.  Remember how the cosplay community bloomed?  WE CAN!  So please support the Local Comic Artists of Bacolod.

Radical Changes Need Not be Disturbed!!!

It wouldn't be fair if I say, COSPLAY is exclusively for cosplayers.  I know that much - the very reason why I'm encouraging event managers to make cosplay events.  But conflicts occur when people are greedy. As much as I want to emphasize on this, I'd let it go.  Dig your own graves if you must... 

More than anything, I'd love to see Cosplay being accepted by not only the young generation, also the older ones. 

Students take up most of the population of Cosplayers here in Bacolod City.  There are only a few pioneer cosplayers that show up once in a while due to their regular work.  Obviously, the bloodline rests on the young cosplayers who will be continuing this performing art long after "we" are gone. 

The art of cosplaying is not as simple as preparing costumes and competing.  Given that it is a new form of art and that parents look at it as an expense or something that deters their kids from studying, it is hanging by a thread.  Students deal with their parents, encouraging them how important the art is to them - trying to make them understand that it is their outlet for the stressful days at school. It is not pretty...but is slowly looking better.  If you intervene with this mutual understanding between the student cosplayers and their authorities, how will the students gain respect? 

I was once a student and yes, I love to skip classes illegally I'm afraid...  How much more if it's legal?  The continual flow of understanding between the society and cosplayers will obviously be disturbed if you encourage them to prioritize something other than their studies!  If you care for the art so much as to make an event, then why can't you adjust?  If you can't, then let things be...  Don't pressure cosplayers especially student cosplayers to break that trust between them and their parents/ guardians. 

We all know that our education always comes first.  Education is the one thing no one can take away from us when we're in a fix.  It is the very thing that will support us as we live our lives and continue to survive.  Can you not understand how crucial that is?  Letting students know that they can SWAY a little bit of tolerance in skipping their classes is not a good idea.  I am not being a pain in the ass for the students. 

Students, I understand your dilemma 101%.  Your studies might mean less than cosplaying these days...but believe me, it will mean more...a LOT more when you graduate.  "But it's just for ONE DAY!" <--- You will be shouting that...I know. :3  Like what they say, a small hole will gradually widen.  Let's prevent that from happening then.  Guys, I am a cosplayer - one of the firsts here in BCD...and I'm not just looking at seconds of satisfaction...  I'm looking at a bigger picture as your sempai.  Try to understand why I am against this.

To those who are pushing this...  If you want to make the cosplayers attend, ADJUST.  I am basically protecting the very pride of a cosplayer.  Respect us, and you will gain what you want.  Treat us like entertainment for your personal gain without considering our schedules and you'll see what's in store for you.

Hi!  It's been a while since I wrote a NOTE here in FB.  Not all may know who I am....so I'm introducing myself.  I'm Katz.  I love cosplay...art and practically anything that inspires people to dream and soar.  So, when I see things that need praise and need raising up, I write about them and acknowledge them gladly.  Especially....stories...

Rising Underground

For so long as I can remember, MANGA has already been a part of my life.  When I got off work, the first thing I do is check if my favorite MANGA (Japanese Comics) is updated.  If not, I'm bummed out.  Most stories in mangas are great.  Take for example, NANA...KIMI NI TODOKE... BATTLE ROYALE... NOBLESSE (Manhwa, A Korean Comic)...  CHEESE IN THE TRAP (Manhwa)...  You get my point...  And yeah, this form of art is basically much more emotional...like a PHOTOGRAPH is to a FILM.

Among the various things I've been doing for the past week and hundreds of worries to think about what with the cosplay gathering just around the corner...I'm so lucky to have met SHIDA SHINPAN a day ago!  He walked up to me and asked me if he could be there in the gathering this coming February 5, 2011.  If you still don't know him, he is the creator of the local Manga, "IN HER WORLD."  This manga was launched last year at the ANIMOTION 2010.

One day, Yamamoto-Taicho realized that someone stole the funds for the GOTEI 13. Because they need funds immediately, the old man proposed the only FAST-EARNING thing to do...with his resources. XD

STUDIO 1 : MR. MAKE-UP

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Gomen, Schiffer-san...can you please smile?"

ULQUIE: "I don't think so..."

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Oh-kay.... Any expression will do."

ULQUIE: "I don't think you understand when I said NO..."

PHOTOGRAPHER: *takes out contract* "But the contract says you should follow my direction. After all, I'm the photographer..."

ULQUIE: *stares at papers* "I just died in the series... This is voluntary. Cut me some slack. I have to look for another job. I heard they're hiring a lead in a band called, KISS. So, hurry up and take the damn picture."

PHOTOGRAPHER: *twitch...twitch*

STUDIO 2 : MR. ICICLE

TOUSHIRO: "This isn't right! Why am I in a bedroom? The apron belongs to the kitchen! I demand an explanation! Ulquiorra posed in the kitchen!"

PHOTOGRAPHER: "But...I was ordered, Toushiro-kun... Besides, it's sexy."

TOUSHIRO: "Do I look like I'm old enough for this!? And what's with the torn apron!? I did not agree to this!!!"

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Uh...Gomen, Toushiro-kun...but...but...a pretty woman told us you did..."

TOUSHIRO: "MATSUMOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

STUDIO 3 : RANDOM SHOUNEN

JINTA: "I still feel weird..."

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Relax, Jinta-kun. Don't strain yourself."

JINTA: "What's this for again?"

PHOTOGRAPHER: "To raise money..."

JINTA: "WHAT!? But Urahara-taicho told me it's to promote the store!"

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Uh...well, in a way...it is..." *fiddles* "You know...more people see this picture...more customers."

JINTA: *relaxes* "Oh! Okay."

 

 STUDIO 4 : MR SEXY

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Uh...uhmm....Gin-kun...I didn't know if they told 'ya but...you're supposed to WEAR the apron."

GIN: "WHAAAa? Awh, come on neh? I cooked these cakes like what you ordered. I am now posing to present them... What's so interesting about an apron?"

PHOTOGRAPHER: *gulp* "Ehehe...nothing, Gin-kun. But you're supposed to wear it for this shoot... The project is called, The APRON Chronicles."

GIN: "Are you saying the APRON is hotter than my body?"

PHOTOGRAPHER: *takes out several tissues with blood* "Not at all, Gin-kun. I've already used up all my tissues just this morning... By tomorrow, I might not be able to wake up anymore..."

After 1 minute...

PHOTOGRAPHER: "So...are we going on with the shoot?"

GIN: "Fine. I don't get why you want me to wear anything at all..."

PHOTOGRAPHER: *wipes nose* "Uhm...can you lengthen the apron, Gin-kun?"

GIN: "WHAAA? But how about my legs?" *shows legs*

PHOTOGRAPHER: *FAINTS*

STUDIO 5 : MR. DENSE

PHOTOGRAPHER: *surprised* "Uh...wow...Renji-kun...you're so good at this... You look so natural." *smiling*

RENJI: "Oh...thanks. Anything for Byakuya-taicho."

PHOTOGRAPHER: *blink, blink* "Uh...that didn't come out right..."

RENJI: "What didn't come out right? Look at these cute buns I'm making!" *squishes cute siopao*

PHOTOGRAPHER: *sheepish* Uhh...right."

RENJI: *smiles at photographer* "Do you wanna squeeze my buns?"

PHOTOGRAPHER: *faints*

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Uh...Szayel-kun..."

SZAYEL: *glares* "IT'S CHAN! NOT KUN!"

PHOTOGRAPHER: *shock* "Uh...Szayel ----chan, Uhm...I hope you know that you should wear the apron..."

SZAYEL: *raises a brow* "That rag? I don't think so. Hurry up and take a picture of my divine body, slave!"

MAYURI: "And so, kiddies...let's add eyeballs and tongues next...we stir it like so..." *stirs with finger*

PHOTOGRAPHER: "Uhm...Mayuri-kun...this is not a cooking show?"

MAYURI: *stops* "Uh...Yes, it is."

PHOTOGRAPHER: "No, it's not."

MAYURI: "Then why am I in the kitchen wearing an apron? Hmm...let me see... I have several hypothesis' as to why I am wearing an apron with nothing else. One, I am being photographed for the benefit of the female audience to arouse them...in this weird fetishes that they love... Two, I am here because I am being used as a sex symbol... Three...

STARK: *yawn* "You've woken me up...I was sleeping so wonderfully..."

Of Good Music & Animation

I started my day nice.  I was deciding on taking an absence because the weather is cool...or was it just my AC??? Pfft~ Anyway, work today is taxing.  Problems just rolled in like the waves and it's not that I'm the one that's being barked at.  Nawh...  It was someone else...but you get the feeling when the office is tensed and all worked up???   Yeah, it's heavy.  It makes you want to just storm out of the room and tear your hair off.  HAHAHAH!

NOW! Enough about today...let's talk about Last Night.

Yup, I've been watching anime since high school and I'm a fanatic.  But because of my love for the traditional art, I only get hooked to anime series with stories that touches the human soul and art that exceeds 'cuteness.'  More than anything, I love a story that is believable, if not in the 'practical reality', in the emotion at least.  There are three...ONLY three creators that touches me very much to the point that I will cry, hover over their work for days, sulk because of the ending, and wonder in amazement.  Those three people are, SATOSHI KON, HAYAO MIYAZAKI and SHINICHIRO WATANABE.

Hayao Miyazaki's creations are astounding due to that fact that most of them are still 2D animation.  MOST!  "How's Moving Castle" was taken from a book written by Diana Wynn Jones <---one of my favorite authors.  When I heard about this, I was so...overjoyed.  Well...the story is a bit different than what it was in the book.  Miyazaki sure did give it a unique touch of his own.  Like all the others that he made..."Spirited Away" and "Mononoke Hime"...they're all magnificent.  It's rare nowadays to see a 2D animation what with all the technologies, right?  But HELL! His creations are...WOOOOOOooooOOOOWWWW!  Take the scenery for example...

This one is from SPIRITED AWAY.  The Town of Spirits.  Look at all the details in this pic.  It looks like a normal town like what we have here in Bacolod...  A bit tacky...totally screwed up colors. Pffft~  But the way he conveys it through is what matters.  It's as if he's saying, "Yes, I know this world exists in yours..."  And YES!  I can totally understand that.  But in another light, he gives it a mysterious air...  And not only to children...BUT to adults as well. 

I mean, you were once a kid, right???  And anybody must have wished their parents can turn to pigs for all they care.  HAHAHHAHA! Yeah.

Not only does he understand the very nature of what a kid see through their eyes, he can also get adults to understand the kids more.  Get my Aunt for example...she's a doctor and she is NOT interested in cartoons.  I was watching Spirited Away for the nth time in her house because unfortunately, our TV is not as COOL as theirs... T_T  And when she saw it, it amazed her.  Before I know it, she's already watching with me and eating up my movie grub. HUhuhuuu...  And also...my most feared...and probably the only animation of his that I DID NOT WATCH again since I cried a BUCKET O TEARS!  "Grave of the Fireflies" *CRIES* 

Oops! Now, my entry is all about GOOD MUSIC and GOOD ANIMATION.  YEAH!  Sorry, was sidetracked by how I adore these animators....

Now the real MACOY here is SHINICHIRO WATANABE.  I was watching Cowboy Bebop last night...for the NTH time again...  It was released 1998...and we're 2011 now...yet I still prefer to watch it than what they're offering me now.  THE STORY IS JUST TOO DAMN GOOD!  And don't get me started with the OST!

Yup.  Been watching this series last night.  And again, this is the only anime series that I DO NOT fast-forward the opening and ending song!  Yes, people...I love jazz and the blues.  But it's not only that...  If you go and listen to this series' soundtrack, you're sure to be hooked.  The compositions and the varieties of tunes are so addicting!  Most of them are in English, by the way...  If you watched this already...remember the scene where Vicious and Spike fought in the broken down Cathedral???  That episode was named, "Ballad of the Fallen Angel"  And the OST there is just to die for!!! The scoring is just... *faints*

One of the most idolized composers...YOKO KANNO... T_T  I love her....  Sigh~

So, from bountry hunter Cowboys to sexy voluptuous fugitives to rapping samurais...  Shinichiro Watanabe has awed me to MAX level.  And it's not only because the art , story and the music is good...  BUT BECAUSE IT ALL TELLS A STORY TOGETHER AND INDIVIDUALLY! I don't know how I can explain that...  But you get what I mean right?  Right?  I hope you do...

SAMURAI CHAMPLOO <---  A story of Fuu, a girl who wants to find the "Samurai who smells like Sunflowers" saved the lives of two warriors.  One is a lecherous pirate named Mugen and the other is a Ronin, Jin.  Because they owe the girl a lot, they decided to help her in her journey filled with weird...surreal...experiences that's gonna blow your heads off.  The realities that they encounter will definitely tweak your mind as you watch the series...and though the rapping (in English) really sounds baaaahhhddd...It's a FUNNY kind of bad.  So, you wouldn't mind it coz you'll be cracking yourself off.

MICHIKO TO HATCHIN <----  is basically a story about love and friendship.  From how the criminal Michiko gets her heart broken by playboys to how Hatchin begins to understand how life works...  The setting is an alternate world of Mexico and I just love the scenes here...reminds me much of the Philippines. LOL! Squatters everywhere!

All in all...  DAMN YOU SHINICHIRO WATANABE for being so GOOOOOHHHHDDDD! I thank God for giving you such brilliance to enlighten us and touch us in a way that we appreciate the world as it is and accept life's difficulties.

Me?  I'm just being emotional today...  I'm such an otaku!   I love delving deeper into the story and understanding what the animator/ creator really want to convey...  I hope the younger generations will come to appreciate these little pleasures.   Most young people tend to idolize animations because the characters are powerful etc, etc...  But ya know...the reality of THE REALITY that no one's perfect?  If an animator can pass it on to you, he's not just trying to coax you into worshiping his work...  That animator has a deeper cause...and message, a story for you to understand. It's not all FACE VALUE...it's the whole package.  Hmmm...  Pretty faces never hurts though...so a lil dab of it might do us good too.  HAHHAHHAAHA!  Makes you wonder why OUR ASWANG never grew as popular as the Japanese' Demons, huh?  Take for example...Sesshoumaru?  HAHAHHAHAH!  

Well, I'm just wrapping this up because I just wanna watch more pioneer animes... HHAHAHAHA!  I'm OUTTA HERE!

Hidden Vibes of 2010

Just before the AniMotion 2010, the team was asking for a photoshoot.  I remembered I was against it solely because I was too busy with work and I  don't want to be pushed into something mediocre.  Yeah...I'm that's dramatic.  I break that principle most of the times though I stick to it as much as I can.  

What happened then was that the team just wanted a "Bonding Time."  I totally understand that!  But well, being ME once more I wanted to make sure they really...REALLY want it this time around to muster up all their strength and help me take care of themselves in the photoshoot.

We love making anime characters into MODERN, ALIVE ones...and so we opted for a mix character since Ric...can't pull off Ichimaru...although I was slightly idiotic for not thinking that he can! -,- Argh.  Gomen, neh?  The main reason was to let Karl (my cousin) use the wig...therefore we did not cut off the wig.  Oh well, what's done is done.  So here are the pictures of the times we went bonkers...

There were so many pictures but these were just some I got hold of.  I dunno where the others went and I'm too tired to look for them. hehehe...  The thing is, it was a great experience...  I just got off from an event the night before the photoshoot , they took me out of the event to check on the props and we set-up the location the next day 8 AM.  Pewwwh!  You guys are gonna be the DEATH of ME!
